Fireman Sam

Find out about Fireman Sam

Fireman Sam is a great fire-fighting hero. Despite his cool calm exterior, Sam is ready to leap into action without a moment’s hesitation. Whether it’s rescuing Dilys and a Penguin from a raging fire at the Cut Price Store, being lowered by Wallaby Two on to the roof of the runaway Pontypandy Flier or powering through the waves after a runaway Alien on a Jet Ski, Sam is prepared for anything. Sam is a great team player and, as one of the more senior firefighters, is a great role model for Ellie, Arnold and the children of Pontypandy. But he’s not just there for the big emergencies, if there’s an overloaded plug, a smoke alarm with a flat battery or a tray of Bronwyn’s hot chilli nibbles that are getting a little too hot - Sam will approach each and every incident as if it were a raging forest fire.

Pontypandy has more than its fair share of eccentric, accident prone inhabitants including of course the well-meaning children of Pontypandy whose hijinks often cause their own share emergency calls. But no matter what clumsy, thoughtless or foolhardy behaviour might have contributed to the situation, Sam (along with the other heroes of Pontypandy) have a caring life lesson for our younger members of the village. He always has time to teach the value of teamwork, responsibility and taking care of each other.

Although Sam is the brother of Charlie and the Uncle of Sarah and James, he feels that everyone in Pontypandy is part of his family.

Sam has driven most of the emergency vehicles on land or sea, he’s even sledded down the snow slopes on an ironing board. But he’s most at home behind the wheel of Jupiter, the pride of the Pontypandy Fire Service.

FUN FACTS:

Despite being one of the worst actors in Pontypandy, Sam is often roped in to the local amateur dramatic productions – who could forget his open-air portrayal of local legend Pontypandy Pete?!

He loves singing ‘The Pontypandy Sea Shanty’, along with other local folk tunes, with his brother Charlie.

While not as fast or fit as Ellie, Sam likes to keep fit and would have won the Pontypandy Fun Run if Ellie hadn’t entered at the last minute.

He’s also a champion apple bobber.
